Children's / Kid's Dentistry

At Dr PREETI’S TOTAL SMILECARE, Dr. Preeti and her friendly staff practice a family-centered approach. Our goal is to work with children and parents to follow-through on a dental plan that we hope will be the beginning of a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Getting your kids to visit us for semi-annual check-ups is only half of a successful program. We educate children in hopes of empowering them to take responsibility for their home care, and give parents the important dental information they need to monitor their child’s oral health.

We treat even our littlest patients with the utmost respect and attempt to make dental education and care a fun experience. We’re also very flexible with appointments as we know how hectic parents’ schedules may be.

We enjoy seeing our littlest clients grow and change as they visit us from their baby teeth years to their adult teeth years, from toddlers to teenagers. We work carefully with a general dentist and an orthodontist ensuring your child’s dental needs are addressed at all stages of their development.

It is important to understand the importance of preventive dentistry to give your kids a healthy set of dentition for life time!!

PREVENTIVE TREATMENTS:

PIT AND FISSURE SEALANTS Prevention is better than cure. As we know Dental/tooth cavity is the most common dental disease in children. Chewing teeth have grooves on the surface like mountain and valleys. These grooves are the hiding and dwelling places for oral bacteria’s causing decay since bristles of a brush do not reach to clean that area.

Hence these areas start developing pits and fissures gradually leading to caries. To prevent this “dental sealants” are applied on the surface of the tooth which covers the grooves and protects it form acid attacks and plaque. Ideal age to put a sealant is 6 years and above.

TOPICALFLUORIDE :

The role of fluoride in preventing dental caries is undoubtedly evident. In case of topical fluoride application the reduction in caries experience in children can reach up to 60%.The number of topical fluoride applications per year depends on the caries risk of a particular child, but a minimum of two applications is considered the optimum in most cases.

HABIT BREAKING APPLIANCES:

Habits like thumb/finger sucking, tongue thrusting, prolonged bottle feeding can cause evident ill effects on the childs teeth. Its necessary to stop such habits to prevent permanent changes in the teeth set.

Orthodontic appliances are given for some period to break such habits. They are temporary and comfortable to wear, which gradually breaks the childs habit.

TREATMENT OF DENTAL DECAY :

FILLINGS Various fillings are used to fill in the cavity of children’s teeth depending on whether it is milk teeth or permanent .semi permanent Fluoride releasing, calcium hydroxide fillings, light cure permanent fillings, etc are used.

PULPOTOMY/PULPECTOMY/RCTS :

If pulp of a teeth(milk/permanent) is infected, extraction of the teeth can be avoided by pulpotomy or pulpectomy procedures. In this way we can save the teeth, avoiding the childs discomfort of chewing food until the next successor permanent teeth erupts.

EXTRACTION :

Baby tooth extraction usually does not require a lot of anesthetic solution and usually does not cause discomfort. The short roots of pediatric teeth make it much easier to remove than adult teeth.
